New Book Brings to Light the Inner World of Cancer Patients

Hudson, NH (PRWEB) October 10, 2012

On January 22, 2012, Mary Good walked out of hospital rehab and returned to her home. From October 30, 2006, with her first appointment for carotid surgery, she had been in and out of hospitals for treatment, surgery and rehabilitation. First diagnosed with bladder cancer when she visited her gynecologist for a regular Pap smear, she came into a wide spectrum of diseases and physical injuries after sixty years of good health, she was suddenly informed that her body was literally dying on her. It took the majority of six years to combat drugs, chemotherapy, occupational rehab it took that and perhaps an indomitable will to survive to enable to come home in one piece. John William Goods Temptation is a clinically detailed chronicle of those trying times.

Mary Good had been a smoker most of her adult life. She has not touched a cigarette since a dangerous amount of plaque build-up was discovered in her carotid artery. From that first operation on her carotid artery she would go on to treatment for cancer on her bladder twice, abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, surgery for cracked pelvis, surgery for cracked spine, fistula surgery, removal of her bladder, and hip replacement. While smoking cannot be pointed to as the culprit for her woes, it certainly contributed to the degradation of her physical balance and the weakening of her immunological support system.

Cancer treatment requires the intake of toxic drugs and the exposure of the patient to deadly radiation. In no way does this lessen the need for these drugs and radiation treatment. There are drugs and treatments that lessen their deleterious effects but they are taken or applied after widespread collateral cell damage has been effected. The author shows the inner world of the cancer patient objectively, letting readers see the pain for themselves and the daily fear of death, of Mary Good expiring without further notice. She had survived no thanks to the cigarette industry, she survived through the most extensive (and expensive) medical processes known to man and is now living to tell the tale.
